Mate to Mate at 8 - what a great launch of our online chat series with Mason Wood!

Tuesday 14th April was a pretty good day for us as we went online with our first event – #matetomateat8 - a chat between 100words founding member Craig Turton (Turts) and North Melbourne Footballer Mason Wood.

This is the first in a weekly series of connecting with awesome blokes and talking about life and the challenges of isolation.

If you missed Turts’ chat with Mason, you can watch it here.

Turts chat with Mason revolved around how the footy club, staff and team are finding unique ways to stay strong and connected during isolation, and included some great tips of looking after physical and mental health.

As a club, all team members are encouraged to connect in everyday with teammates and have heaps of options to do so, including ‘coffee club’, ‘study club’ and ‘movie club’ using tools such as Zoom and Skype.

Mason top 5 tips were:

  • Set a routine for each day and stick to it. This helps maintain a sense of normality and structure

  • Look after physical health – walk, run, yoga – whatever works for you. Set some goals and go after them

  • Look after mental health – practice mindfulness and find gratitude for what you have in the present moment, without looking back or thinking about what’s ahead.

  • Connect with your mates. Set yourself the goal of checking in on one or two of your mates every day. Ask them to rate their day out of 10 and then chat about why they scored it the way they did.

  • Don’t be hard on yourself. It’s ok to have crap days….acknowledge them, accept them and know that tomorrow if a new day.

Don’t forget to check in on our events page to see the line up of #matetomateat8 chats with Turts on Tuesday nights at 8 over the coming weeks

And most importantly, take up the challenge of connecting with your mates at 8pm over the coming weeks! Invite them to join in on one of the webinars, call them, organise a Zoom chat or event better - a Zoom workout session! Challenge each other to reach a few goals! Take a snap, add it to your socials and tag us on Instagram or Facebook and we will share with the world!
